Bridgeplay changelog
This page lists every Bridgeplay release, newest first, with the notes as published on GitHub Releases. Bridgeplay updates itself through Sparkle, so most people never need to download a release by hand. To check right away, choose Check for Updates… in the app or press Refresh on its Status page.
The version number went from 3.5.0 back to 0.7.0 at build 44. Updates follow the build number, which only goes up, so the change doesn’t affect installs. This list is sorted by release date.
Bridgeplay 0.7.58 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.58: After you press Play, a progress panel stays up until the game's window opens. A game's first launch sets up faster. Overcooked now runs on DXMT, which fixes its solid magenta screen. Setup puts Apple's graphics in place without running a script, and removes the quarantine flag only from files it has checked. If that fails, setup stops with an error instead of the game failing to start later.
Build 75, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.57 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.57:
- The download is much smaller: 18 MB instead of 82 MB. Fonts for Chinese, Japanese and Korean games now download in the background after setup.
- Installs that already have these fonts keep them and download nothing.
Build 74, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.56 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.56:
- Bridgeplay now downloads as a disk image. Drag Bridgeplay into Applications and open it, and the Setup Assistant does the rest. Bridgeplay-Setup.zip is still on every release.
Build 73, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.55 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.55:
- Bridgeplay is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple. A downloaded copy opens after a single click on Open.
- After this update macOS asks once more for App Management. Turn Bridgeplay on in System Settings > Privacy & Security > App Management. This happens once, because the signing certificate changed.
- On new installs, setting up Steam no longer asks for your Mac password.
- The Setup Assistant can download Apple's Game Porting Toolkit itself, so Bridgeplay.app alone is enough to get started.
Build 72, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.54 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.54:
- Games with kernel anti-cheat (Ricochet, XIGNCODE3, EA Javelin) now ask before they start. Wine can't load that driver, so these games most likely quit at launch. The game only starts if you choose Launch Anyway.
- If another tool such as Cartouche is already set up in Steam, Setup names it and offers Repair Steam. Thanks @Nael-Nathanael.
- Play reports stay under the upload limit, even with long logs. Thanks @louisboii747.
- The Bridgeplay mark looks cleaner, and the Done step in Setup shows the app icon.
Build 71, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.53 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.53:
- Game Defaults: a new page where you set the backend, display, DLSS, msync, frame generation and DLL overrides for every game that has no settings of its own. It lists the games that do, and the Steam panel gets a Use Bridgeplay defaults button.
- The engine download now shows real byte counts.
- When a bundled WineCX file fails its check, the error says which check failed.
- Five more player reports added to the compatibility list.
Build 70, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.52 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.52: The DualSense Bluetooth bridge, Steam Input rumble and the game-mode host are removed for now. The same work is under review upstream in NotProton (NotProtonNot/NotProton#90), and they come back once it is merged there. A broken Steam manifest no longer hides a valid copy of the same game on another drive. About now shows the copyright and GPL notice and thanks NotProton's contributors.
Build 69, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.51 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.51: Setup text is shorter and more accurate. The installer is much smaller; Setup downloads the WineCX engine itself. Remove Everything also clears Bridgeplay's per-game tool choices in Steam. Blocking Steam updates now warns that you also miss Steam's security fixes. The README lists every change Bridgeplay makes to Steam.
Build 68, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.50 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.50: Games start again on CrossOver Preview 27; macOS was closing them at launch. Setup now shows the Steam notice and a new anti-cheat warning before it changes Steam: online games with anti-cheat often won't start, and Bridgeplay can't promise anti-cheat won't flag it. The last setup step points to CrossOver, set up in Status if you own it. The app and installer now include the LGPL license text and list the engine's third-party libraries.
Build 67, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.49 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.49: Setup and the README now say plainly what Bridgeplay changes in Steam. It adds a library that Steam loads at startup and re-signs Steam on your Mac. Valve doesn't support this, and it may go against Steam's terms. Repair Steam or Remove Everything undoes it.
Build 66, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.48 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.48:
- The sidebar now shows the credits: Bridgeplay is a fork of NotProton and runs on CodeWeavers' open-source Wine and Apple's Game Porting Toolkit, with a link to buy CrossOver to support Wine.
- The version line at the bottom of the sidebar no longer cuts off.
Build 65, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.47 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.47:
- The last setup step and About Bridgeplay now credit NotProton, CodeWeavers' Wine and Apple's Game Porting Toolkit, with a link to buy CrossOver. CodeWeavers funds most of the Wine work Bridgeplay runs on, so if CrossOver works for you, consider buying it.
- About Bridgeplay also thanks everyone who has contributed on GitHub.
Build 64, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.46 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.46:
- Updating an engine no longer swaps its files out while a game is still using them, and if the swap fails the old copy is put back (#547, thanks @kevicebryan).
- A slow prefix rebuild is no longer reported as failed and started a second time (#544).
- Native Mac games no longer abort at launch when a library Steam asks them to load is missing (#544).
- Switching compatibility tools right after a prefix rebuild offers a rebuild again (from NotProton).
Build 63, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.45 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.45:
- Setup now quits Steam by itself before making WineCX its default, so that step no longer stops with "Quit Steam, then press Try Again" (#333).
- When Steam.app belongs to root, for example after a sudo copy or an MDM install, setup says so and shows the chown command an administrator can run. It no longer blames another account (#391).
Build 62, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.44 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.44: if your internet drops while the WineCX engine downloads, Bridgeplay now waits for it to come back and carries on instead of failing.
Build 61, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.43 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.43:
- The Witcher 3 starts without the REDlauncher crash and offers DLSS again.
- New gamefix key HIDE_WINE_EXPORTS for games that turn features off when they detect Wine.
- Before you share game reports, Bridgeplay now lists every setup detail a report includes.
- Rebuilding a prefix keeps Program Files and ProgramData.
- The installer only installs a downloaded app signed with the Bridgeplay release certificate.
- The run script no longer sweeps Wine processes when /tmp/.wine-<uid> is a link or another user's folder.
Build 60, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.42 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.42: games that use D3DX11CreateThreadPump, such as Persona 4 Golden, no longer stop at launch on WineCX 11.17. A gamefix can now set CX_FWD_COMPAT_GL_CTX=1 for OpenGL games that crash at startup.
Build 59, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.41 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.41:
- If Steam hangs after it has already shut down during setup, Bridgeplay now closes it and setup carries on.
Build 58, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.40 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.40:
- When a game starts in Low Power Mode, Bridgeplay tells you once, because it makes games run slower.
- If Steam doesn't quit when Bridgeplay asks, it asks again through macOS, and the error now says what to do.
- The run log and play reports say why a game quit.
- After "Has issues", the report card asks what went wrong. Reports also include the Mac model, GPU cores, thermal state, battery use and Retina mode.
Build 57, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.39 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.39: Every download now shows its speed and time left next to the progress bar, and you can pause it. A dropped connection picks up where it stopped instead of starting over. The installer no longer stops with "The release information is invalid" when it runs while a new release is being published.
Build 56, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.38 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.38: 32-bit games such as Portal 2, Fallout: New Vegas and Borderlands 2 connect to Steam again on the WineCX 11.17 engine instead of quitting with "Steam is not running". Borderlands 2 fills the window when Retina mode is on.
Build 55, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.37 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.37: games on the WineHQ engine start again. They had been closing right away because the Game Mode launcher could not load Wine. When a game's prefix can't be built because the disk is nearly full, the alert now says so.
Build 54, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.36 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.36: a game whose Windows prefix could not be built now stops with an alert that says why, instead of quitting with no window. On an exFAT or FAT Steam library the alert says to move the game to an APFS drive; elsewhere it asks you to rebuild the prefix.
Build 53, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.35 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.35:
- Compatibility reports no longer show your home folder name when it appears in a Wine path (Z:\Users\…)
- Steadier DualSense trigger and launcher tests
Build 52, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.34 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.34:
- A game that quits within a minute without crashing, for example after an error dialog, now gets the How did it run? card too, so you can report it
Build 51, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.33 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.33:
- When you switch a game to another CrossOver build, Bridgeplay offers to rebuild its prefix, from the game's Compatibility page or when a game crashes right after the switch (from NotProton)
- A prefix made by another build of the same architecture runs in place instead of being refused (from NotProton)
- Compatibility reports now show the error lines from the whole log, so the crash isn't cut off
- Fixed a DualSense trigger test that failed at random on slow machines
Build 50, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.32 ·
- chore(release): Bridgeplay 0.7.32
- fix(setup): slow connections get three hours to download the engine, not 30 minutes
- feat(app): every error offers Report on GitHub and Show Log
- feat(setup): downloads show their size, progress and time left
- fix(run): 32-bit games get tier0_s.dll and vstdlib_s.dll in the Steam bridge
- fix(setup): App Management opens by itself and its button sits above the tasks
- feat(installer): a failed install offers Show Log and Report on GitHub
- fix(installer): another app's updater no longer stops the install
Build 49, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.31 ·
What's new in Bridgeplay 0.7.31:
- When a game moved to another Steam library starts with a new prefix, Bridgeplay now tells you where the old one (with its saves and launcher sign-ins) still is.
- A Steam library on a drive that is not APFS (exFAT, say) is now named in the log, with a heads-up when a new prefix is made there, since games can hang on it.
- New installs start with Metal HUD, High Resolution and frame generation off, to spare smaller Macs. Turn them on per game or in Setup.
- Compatibility reports name the engine the game actually ran on, not one that was tried and refused.
Build 48, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.3 ·
- chore(release): Bridgeplay 0.7.3
- feat(panel): pick a custom game executable and Start In folder (upstream #221)
- feat(run): launch option NOTPROTON_ENV_<NAME> sets any env var for the game (upstream #219)
Build 47, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.2 ·
What's new in 0.7.2:
- The installer downloads Bridgeplay, Apple's graphics and the engine at your connection's full speed, with a progress bar that moves.
Build 46, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.1 ·
What's new in 0.7.1:
- New installer: download a small Bridgeplay-Setup.zip, allow it once (READ ME FIRST shows how), and it installs Bridgeplay, Apple's graphics, the engine and Steam for you.
- Steam > a game > Properties now shows Bridgeplay's settings under a tab named Bridgeplay.
- Faster, steadier checks behind every release.
Build 45, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 0.7.0 ·
Bridgeplay's version number restarts at 0.7.0. This replaces 3.5.0: nothing was downgraded, updates keep arriving as usual, and from now on the number moves slowly.
- Game reports: after "Has issues" or "Didn't run" you can add a short note on what went wrong. Reports also say which displays were connected and whether Low Power Mode was on.
- Reports from games that ran badly keep their full log, so problems can be fixed without the same Mac to test on.
- Steam's install record is now ordered by build, so the lower version number never blocks updating Steam.
Build 44, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 3.5.0 ·
- ci(app): run source checks in a parallel job, cache the bridge and fonts
- test(dualsense): judge trigger grace by its history, not a snapshot
- test(dualsense): send a fixed count of trigger resets instead of a 1.2 s window
- chore(release): bump Bridgeplay to 3.5.0 after upstream merge
- test(dualsense): scale the dry PCM report floor by resync pauses
- test(dualsense): tolerate slow CI hosts in the PCM dry soak and audio stop check
- test: pass on GitHub runners (C-locale sort, real arm64e dylibs where SIP is off)
- docs: map Apple's GPTK license terms; ci: weekly AppleGamingWiki refresh of compat/reported.json
- ci: parse bash scripts with bash in scriptcheck; reuse a passing app workflow in releases
- Keep escaped quotes in names read from appmanifest
- Translate Disable hidraw and the Windows library filter into Italian (#231)
- Fixed CrossOver version order
Build 43, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 3.4.1 ·
Installer: Valve's Steam download is no longer sometimes rejected as unsigned; the check now verifies Apple's trust chain, Valve's Team ID and Steam's bundle identifier (#3). The bundled helpers are now signed with the Bridgeplay Release identity, like the app.
Build 42, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 3.4.0 ·
Share how your games run, in one tap.
- After you play, Bridgeplay asks once per game: How did it run? One tap posts the result, your Mac and a redacted log to the Compatibility reports on GitHub Discussions. No GitHub account needed.
- Report Your Games… in the Prefix menu covers everything you've already played. Report This Game… does one.
- Optional: share automatically after each game when the log makes the result clear.
- Games a maintainer already verified on a Mac like yours are not asked about.
- Releases are now signed with a stable identity, so macOS keeps the App Management permission across updates. This update asks for it one last time.

Bridgeplay 3.0.0 ·
Bridgeplay 3.0.0: everything is Bridgeplay now. Files move to ~/Library/Application Support/bridgeplay and ~/.bridgeplay, Steam compatibility tools become bridgeplay-proton-*, and launch options use BRIDGEPLAY_* (NOTPROTON_* still works). The move runs once by itself on first launch while Steam and games are closed, with backups in bridgeplay/backups/migration-3.0.0.
Build 34, based on NotProton 1.2.0.
Bridgeplay 2.1.0 ·
New look across the app, matching bridgeplay.dev: Geist type, the Bridgeplay gradient and pill buttons. The Setup Assistant has art and animation for every step, a clearer Game Porting Toolkit step, and the Status page opens with a summary of whether you're ready to play.
